FAQ: OOS Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: What height do you mow the grass?

Depends. Factors such as weather, sun/shade exposure, fertilization, and type of grass all play into mowing height. On average we mow at a height between 3 inches and 4 inches. It is healthier for your lawn not to lower the mower deck unless your turf type calls for a lower mowing height. Mowing too low reduces the density of the grass, thus making the lawn susceptible to invasive summer weeds. Crabgrass and foxtail need sunlight to grow. By mowing the grass too low, homeowners may unknowingly be promoting crabgrass growth.

FAQ: Do you recommend bagging the grass when mowing?

No. We use mulching mowers that recycle the clippings back into the grass and help provide nutrients to the soil. We offer to bag your grass at an additional cost but we do not recommend it.

FAQ: What happens if there is damage to my property?

Contact our office right away. Any time you see possible damage that may have been caused by our crews please let us know right away. We have vendors and staff members on call to quickly handle these situations. Please do not contact an outside vendor for the repair before contacting us.

FAQ: How often do you bill and how do I pay you?

We automatically charge your credit card, debit card or ACH on file immediately after service. We accept all major credit and debit cards and do require a credit card, debit card, or ACH on file for service. This allows us to provide the best service at the best price.

FAQ: What is ACH?

An ACH payment is a type of electronic bank-to-bank payment. The ACH system is a way to transfer money between bank accounts, rather than going through card networks or using wire transfers, paper checks, or cash. The benefit to paying with ACH is there are no fees or postage required to pay an invoice.

FAQ: Do you have credit card fees if paying with a credit card or debit card?

Yes. The credit card processing company charges Ozarks Outdoor Solutions for processing payment with a credit card or debit card. There is a 3.5% credit card processing fee for payments made with a credit card or debit card.

FAQ: If I have a service concern, how do I communicate that to Ozarks Outdoor Solutions?

FAQ: Does anyone need to be home while we are mowing or landscaping?

FAQ: What if I am not happy with a service?

All of our services are guaranteed. If you are not happy with a service performed on your property, contact us right away. Depending on the need we will:

  • Send a supervisor out to have a look and fix the issue.
  • Send the crew back to fix the issue.
  • Set up a meeting with a supervisor to get the issue resolved.
  • Correct the issue on the next scheduled visit.
  • Schedule a supervisor to meet the crew at your property to correct the issue.

FAQ: Do you mow on the weekends?

We do not use Saturday or Sunday as a regularly scheduled service days. We do use the weekend as a make up days in the case of weather caused delays which may have occurred during the week or, in more rare cases, to make up for other possible delays.

FAQ: What happens if it rains on my scheduled day of service?

Rain is the most common cause of any delays. We do our best to work through light to medium rain when it is safe to do so, depending on the upcoming forecasts. If we get behind for any reason we will always communicate our plans.

FAQ: May I skip a mowing service?

If for any reason, you need to skip a service, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance by phone or e-mail us at oos@ozarksos.com. We will make every effort to make the change if you contact us within 24 hours but with no guarantees. After a skip, your service will be picked up again on the next scheduled service date for your property. Our crews will not decide if your yard needs to be cut, so you will need to call or email us to skip a scheduled mowing.

FAQ: How often do you mow?

We mow on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. We receommend weekly mowing services. Bi-weekly services are offered, but we do not recommend this service, especially in the faster-growing portion of the season (April-June). Your yard growth may vary due to a variety of conditions (watering intervals, fertilizing schedules, etc.) We also will not cut the grass shorter than industry-accepted standards, which recommends only cutting 1/3 off the grass height each mowing. Bi-weekly servicing lends itself to such problems and complaints as the following: thatch build-up, grass clumps, excessive grass clippings, grass lines or ridges which appear that we skipped while mowing, and the appearance of an uneven cut in the yard. Unfortunately, we will not be able to send crews back to correct these issues or guarantee these services as we do with our weekly services.

FAQ: What if I have a locked gate?

No problem. We recommend using a combination lock and giving our office the code. We will communicate to the crews so they can unlock and lock the gate for service.

FAQ: What if I have pets?

That's great and we do too! We do ask that pets, pet toys and debris be picked up prior to our service. As much as we strive to keep gates shut and locked, we ask that you keep your pets indoors during your service day.

FAQ: I had my yard fertilized last year and I am not seeing results.

Many factors play into turf health: weather, sun/shade, grass type, soil type, drainage, insects, and pH of soil. We recommend first taking a soil sample to get the chemical and organic makeup of your soil. Once the test results come back we can make a tailored chemical treatment plan for your turf.

FAQ: I mulch my fallen leaves in the fall. Is that a good idea?

No. Mulching leaves with a mower can mince the leaves, but this creates more problems down the road. First, the mulched leaves alter the pH of the soil, potentially moving the soil out of the specific pH range your grass needs to remain healthy and grow. Second, the leaves, can form a barrier over the soil depriving the soil and grass of nurtients and moisture.

FAQ: What are a few shade tolerant plants recommended for the Ozarks?

Hostas, ferns and astilbe.

Hosta Image
Hosta is a perennial that does well in low-light areas. It flowers in the summer and its blooms are attractive to butterflies and add color to the shaded border.

Ferns love shady beds and require very little care once established.

Astilbes prefer partial shade but can tolerate a wide range of sunlight conditions. Their flowers float on spikes above their fernlike leaves.
